 At Community Solutions, we are committed to positive family experiences. Our programs are designed to help youth build progressive futures. We focus on academic achievement, health and wellness, quality peer engagements, respect for authority, making good decisions and overall sound morale. Community Solutions trusted staff work together to ensure families of the children get a once in a lifetime experience. So, it’s no wonder our Summer Explorer Camp & 2017 Brighter Futures Camp were successes! Our Explorer Camp, geared toward youth ages 8-13, explored Hampton Roads through one-week sessions that included visiting some of the most interesting and exciting places. Campers were transported to local attractions where they explored personal interests, such as connecting with nature in local state parks, sporting events, museums and cultural venues, and engaging in visual arts such as painting, drawing and photography. When campers were not painting the town with adventures, they hung around Community Solutions playing games, engaging in character-building workshops and learning how to effectively communicate among peers and adults. Importantly, children worked through conflict using problem-solving skills provided to them by our knowledgeable mentors and staff. Explorer Camp 2017 was most definitely one to remember! Then, 2017 Brighter Futures Camp provided the necessary tools to prepare young adults, ages 14-18 for the workforce. Indeed, Community Solutions did just that! Children were given resources and guidance from professionals that helped them land paid gigs with a Community Solutions Workplace Partner. To do this, young adults prepared to learn about dressing on a budget for interviews (with clothing provided by Community Solutions), identify and build realistic career paths, create resume and cover letters, fill out job applications and use proper references based on job type. They also learned some important communication skill sets, including conflict resolution, ethics and teamwork. All of which will help them become successful additions to the workplace. Community Solutions creates these long-lasting memories for children to look and reflect on their own growth into happy and healthy adults. The success of summer camp does not stop there! As we ease into a new school year, we will continue to offer after-school programs, parent workshops and mentoring, family wellness programs, applied behavioral services, holiday camps and other weekend activities.
